Supporting urban rooftop gardens for greener, more accessible city spaces
The Danish Housing and Planning Agency aimed to enhance urban living by promoting rooftop gardens in densely populated cities. To support this initiative, a grant scheme was introduced, offering co-financing for rooftop garden projects in rental buildings located in cities with over 50,000 inhabitants. The primary goal was to increase residents' access to green spaces, particularly in urban areas where private gardens are scarce. Projects were prioritized based on the number of residents benefiting and the distance to the nearest public park.
Implementing this grant scheme required an efficient and structured system to manage applications, approvals, and fund allocation within the constraints of the fiscal year. Without an automated solution, the agency could face administrative burdens that could slow down the process, risk inaccuracies in prioritization, and delay funding disbursement. A solution was needed to ensure applications were processed efficiently, transparently, and within the available budget.
